Moving bins vs PODS and U-Box: what's the difference?
Short answer: they aren't competitors. Moving bins replace cardboard boxes: they're what you pack your things into. PODS and U-Box are portable containers that replace the moving truck and can store everything. Many people use both: bins to pack, a container to move and store.
How do they compare?
| Moving bins | Portable containers (PODS, U-Box) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it replaces | Cardboard boxes | The moving truck, and sometimes a storage unit |
| Holds | Your small items, packed by room | Everything, including furniture |
| Long-distance | No, local moves only | Yes |
| Storage | Weekly rental only | On-site or at their facility, month to month |
| Needs driveway space | No, bins stack indoors | Yes, room to park a container |
| Our area | Daytona Moving Bins Co. | PODS[1] and U-Haul U-Box[2] both serve Daytona Beach |
When should I choose a portable container?
Choose PODS or U-Box if you're moving out of the area, need to store furniture between homes, or don't want to drive a truck. Check the container company's prices and HOA or condo rules about parking a container.
When are bins enough?
If you're moving within the Daytona area and have a truck, movers or a few friends, bins handle the packing. Hire movers or rent a truck for the furniture.
Can I use bins inside a PODS container?
Yes, as long as the container ends up inside our delivery area and you're done within your rental window. Uniform bins pack tightly into a container. For long-term storage, use boxes you own instead.
